In this episode we had Chopey and Inn to discuss the Open Source initiative in Maldives. Two of them are heavily involved in the Maldives Open Source Society (MOSS) and Maldivian Linux Usergroup (MLUG). They discussed about the ongoing Linux Dhivehi translation project and the advantages of using Open Source applications and the barriers to Open Source in Maldives. You can also participate in MOSS discussions in Google Groups or in Facebook. Also you can participate as a translator for the project from here.

2How can someone say we are thieves if we are buying the CD’s or OS’s from our own money!? In this case who should take responsible “FORMAX” or Teenager’s who buy the products?

3Very good episode. True, our government needs to think about these IT projects before they jump into spending millions.
Gasim I think everyone should takes responsibility. The Teenager, The Formax and The Government. But I think it is not fair for Formax, that you guys have mentioned only formax. Surely there are other people who are selling pirated softwares too in Maldives.

5Zaraakii, if you really wanna know. I don’t for my personnel use and I replace it where I can (almost for the past 5 years). “There is a really a world where you can live without Windows on your desktop and it’s great!”.
cheers!

9so chopey, I bet you have used pirated software’s sometime in your life. Don’t you guys think of bringing this matters to the governments attention by any other way maybe “forcefully” like the host said, maybe have a rally or something like that, I’ll be more willing to help you guys. btw you guys are doing a great job we need people like you today.

11@zaraakii: there are people who really knows the benefits of open source and there are many people who are not on Windows.!!
There is a world without Windows!

12Very informative and entertaining. thanks to all. I dont think i have heard of a dhivehi interview this long without making me bored.
Good coverage of apps and other things. One thing i wish that you guys emphasise is to contrast between traditional properitary software and FOSS, even after the introduction of copyright laws. The fact tat you can download, own and _distribute_ is v significant advantage. As someone familiar with FOSS I know what you were saying, but for complete newbies the message is not that clear i think. Other than that its v good. keep up.

13Please make the google group of mlugmv readable to everyone without having to become a member of it to view posts.
I guess this should make the overall discussion more open.
